If everyone understood that our own perspective isn’t the only one out there,

we could change the world.

“Victoria J. Coe doesn’t just write books — she inhabits her characters.” - Acclaimed children’s book author Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich

It All Depends on Your Point of View - Keynote Address

An engaging presentation about my lifelong obsession with perspective, with an emphasis on storytelling. Includes: How Beverly Cleary’s Ribsy changed my life, How animal characters are a gateway to growing a robust curiosity about other POVs, How that leads to developing empathy, and How reality really does depend on your point of view. After all, my own book Fenway and Hattie shows kids how both sides of a story can be true!

I’ll also explore how the accessible nature of animal characters teaches young readers that their own perspective isn’t the only one out there. This can open up an appetite for stories told from diverse POVs and ultimately broaden a reader’s worldview, helping them to become better friends, better community members, and better citizens.

Intended for groups of educators, librarians, and/or parents.

In person or virtual.

“It’s very spicy in here!” - Ms. (Connell) Sanders, Middle School educator and conference participant

Topics TBD - Author Panel

Known for my “deep point of view” writing and obsession with perspective, my voice is a unique addition to author panels addressing: empathy, diversity, and honoring all kinds of reading.

In addition, I’m a passionate advocate of reading choice, reading aloud, community-wide reading programs, and encouraging reluctant readers and writers.

And of course, I’m always up for talking about animals and animal books, especially those starring dogs (or mice)!

For groups of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds. In person or virtual.
